Terms of Service

These terms describe the conditions for using ShelterScan’s current prototype. ShelterScan helps you review possible visual leads from published shelter listings. It is not a shelter, animal-control agency, or emergency service.

Best-effort scanning

Photo scanning is provided on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee that a scan will identify your pet, find every possible match, or lead to a reunion. A result may show a different animal, and your animal may be missed even when a relevant photo is available. Similarity rankings are not identity confirmations or probabilities.

Incomplete coverage

Not all shelters publish photos, and not every animal at a shelter has a searchable photo. We do not cover every shelter, rescue, animal-control organization, found-pet report, or private finder. Listings and photos can be unavailable, delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, or out of date. A search with no results does not establish that your pet is not in a shelter or has not been found.

Continue your own thorough search

Using ShelterScan is not a substitute for exhaustive due diligence. Continue contacting and, where appropriate, visiting shelters and animal-control agencies; check their listings directly and repeatedly; review other lost-and-found reports; and keep identification and microchip contact information current where applicable. Do not rely solely on a scan or stop other search efforts because of our results. Confirm an animal’s identity and current status directly with the organization holding it.

Responsible use

Only select photos you are entitled to use. Do not use the service to harass others, make fraudulent claims, interfere with its operation, or bypass access restrictions. ShelterScan does not determine ownership or authorize an animal’s release; the relevant shelter or agency controls those decisions.

Availability and changes

The prototype is offered as available. Features, source coverage, and availability may change or be interrupted. To the extent permitted by applicable law, we make no warranty of uninterrupted availability, completeness, accuracy, or suitability for a particular search. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or protections that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Accounts and privacy

Use an email address you control and keep your password confidential. Email addresses are not verified in this version, and the service does not send password-reset emails. You are responsible for activity through your account; do not share credentials or impersonate someone else. You may change your password or delete your account from the account page. Saved searches store only the preferences you choose to save; they do not run in the background or send alerts. Select photos, or restore photos you opted to remember in this browser, to run a new comparison against the available listings.

Our Privacy Policy explains how the service handles information. Before creating an account, you must affirmatively agree to these terms, acknowledge the Privacy Policy, and acknowledge the best-effort scanning and due-diligence limitations. We record the versions of these documents and the time of that acknowledgment.
